For the first time in its history, the University of Cape Town (UCT) has gathered together its entire community to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of professional, administrative support and service (PASS) and academic staff. The inaugural UCT Annual Awards took place on Monday, 19 November and saw the Memorial Hall transformed into a glittering venue for the gala occasion. The Centre for Minerals Research congratulates Heather Sundstrom on her Long Service Award for 15 years within the CMR and Kirsten Corin for being promoted from Senior Research Officer to Associate Professor. The University of Cape Town will be holding a 3 day course in Particle Characterisation, coordinated by the Continuing Professional Development Programme. The course will run 28-30 November 2018 in the Department of Chemical Engineering.
This short course will outline the principles and methods for characterising the chemical, physical and mechanical properties of particles at length scales ranging from single particles to bulk levels. Sample preparation and the state-of-the-art techniques for particle characterisation will be detailed.
