Prestigious award for CMR Director

Professor Cyril O'Connor has been named as the recipient of the Brigadier Stokes Memorial award for 2010. This prestigious award was instituted by the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in 1980 to commemorate Brigadier Stokes for his outstanding and unique contribution to the South African Mining Industry over a period of many years. As such, this platinum medal has been awarded to individuals for the very highest achievement in the South African mining and metallurgical industry. In the past this award has been given to such esteemed individuals as Harry F. Oppenheimer (1980), Dr W J (Wim) de Villiers (1988) and Patrice Motsepe (2005).
