Last week saw the Cape Town celebrations of the launch of Process Mineralogy - the latest in the JKMRC Monograph Series in Mining and Mineral Processing. Dr Megan Becker of the CMR, and Drs Elaine Wightman and Cathy Evans of the SMI-JKMRC are the Editors of this seminal text. Process Mineralogy is the culmination of many months of work, by a team of over 50 contributors. The Monograph covers the various tools and techniques used in process mineralogy studies, and their application illustrated in a series of case studies spanning different commodities, unit processes and locations around the world.

Congratulations to Nanji Sheni, Engineer-in-Training in MPD and Tshiamo Legoale, Scientist in SSMB who both progressed to the finals of the FameLab South Africa competition after competing at  the semi-finals which was held at Wits University on 24 March. The 10 finalists were selected from 20 young science communicators across the country. The finals will take place on 19 April 2017 in Johannesburg.

CMR Staff and PG students were recently invited to attend a 5 day Advanced Concentrator Training course facilitated by MPTech of the CMR. The course, which covered Mineralogy, Comminution & Classification, Flotation, Sampling and Surveys, is aimed at the advancement of the specialist skills of technical professionals on concentrator operations for process streamlining and optimisation.

Nanji Sheni wins Mintek Heat of FameLab

The CMR would like to congratulate Nanji Sheni, who graduated with an MSc in Flotation Chemistry in 2016 and now works at Mintek as an Engineer-in-Training for winning the Mintek Heat of FameLab held today. She will be competing in the semi-finals to be held at Wits University on Friday, 24 March 2017. Good Luck Nanji!
